On Sunday 20th July Bishop Justin, Father Adam and Father Greg celebrated a sung Mass at 10am with many visitors and Parishioners. A choir has been formed in Exmouth and these folk kindly travelled to Carnarvon and provided the music at the weekend Masses with special emphasis at the 10am Mass. Their beautiful music and singing was hugely appreciated by the folk at the Masses.
After Mass everyone progressed to the front of the new Presbytery and Parish Centre and Bishop Justin opened the new building and invited all to follow him through the rooms for the Blessing of the new Buildings.
Lunch followed with delicious food, especially the cooking prepared by Bebe and Risa in true Filipino style, and by Maria from Tonga. A very special Celebration Cake made by Veronica offering congratulations and thanks to Bishop Justin alongside an array of sweets finished a fabulous lunch.
Father Adam then thanked everyone involved in the project as many people had helped with all the tasks to complete this beautiful building and Parish Centre. Parish Councillors Yvonne Fahl and Paul Fee gave a brief summary of the huge work load undertaken by Father Adam and Father Greg and noted that the Parish will always be sincerely grateful to the Salvatorian Priests and especially to Fathers Adam and Greg.
Bishop Justin then outlined the history of the long road travelled to achieve this building. Plans had been prepared many years ago, but always put aside because of finances. The Salvatorians commenced service in the Diocese in 1994 at Carnarvon and Exmouth and discussions commenced about how a new Presbytery could be achieved. The old Presbytery was partly Heritage listed and was also not in habitable condition. After many meetings, between a Building Committee and the Parish Council, discussion with Bishop Justin and the Diocesan Finance Committee, the old building was partly demolished and re-built with a Meeting Room, an office, a covered area, and a beautiful kitchen attached to the side of the new Presbytery.
It was a joyous and happy day to open and have blest a beautiful new Presbytery and a Parish Centre.
