Mission Statement

We trust in God's loving providence in discerning and courageously responding to the particular signs of the times in each place and age.

Today, these signs urge us to be a prophetic voice for the renewal of Church and world, by conveying in a contemporary way the values of the Gospel in dialogue with each culture; by animating lay people to live their baptismal commitment for Christian leadership, ministry, and service; by joining the poor in challenging contemporary evils which frustrate a fully human life, particularly social injustice, poverty and violence in all their forms.

We Salvatorians seek to fulfill our mission by being one with those we serve, manifesting to the world the goodness and kindness of God our Saviour.

Reflections
Slums of Parola

Place: Manila, Philippines
Slums can be found in 256 communities, located in all the cities and municipalities of Metro Manila. They account for some 2.54 million men, women and children living in the most depressed areas of the country’s prime metropolis. These slum communities are located on vacant lands that are both private and government owned. Usually they are located along rivers and creeks, in garbage dumps, along railroad tracks, under bridges, and beside factories and other industrial establishments.

Hidden World

It was two hours before dawn when we left home, two Salvatorians, a Priest and a Brother.  A quick stop at an all night coffee shop where we met two friends, our guide and an interpreter, and we left for Parola.  You may not find Parola on many Manila city maps, but there just meters from the waterfront and the docks lies one of the largest slums in the city.  It may no longer be politically correct to use the word slum; depressed area or home to the impoverished is the current phrase used to describe the hovels of the poor.

Year and Day of Prayer for Priests

Pope Benedict XVI is proclaiming a Year for Priests on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the death of St Jean Marie Vianney. It will be a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the call and mission of priests and to pray for the holiness of priests and for the vocation to priesthood and religious life. Maybe dedicate one day a month to this special prayer?
